How can I help my husband learn to be responsible with money?

My husband continues to lose money on video games and other useless crap we can not afford, then tries to hide. It throws their income and were not recorded in the checkbook, and never paid a bill in his life. If I left him, they were never paid. I can not be trusted with our money. I do not want treat as a child and remove all your credit cards and debit (over who would be very, very mad), but I tried to talk to this subject over the past 2 years has past, and it will not be irresponsible with our money. Any advice? It will not give up his cards, I tried.

Here's what I do (because I'm in a similar position) … 1) Either put money into our joint bank account and create my own bank account where my paycheck automatically deposited every two weeks. 2) I credit cards on my own behalf and closed all major credit cards once shared. 3) I created a savings account high yield (www.theapplebank.com – earning 5.14% interest with no minimum) and began to make automatic withdrawals from my checking account, when my paycheck deposited. In a few months, I started to see some real savings, thus reducing the tension and gave me confidence knowing I could leave at any time if I chose to do so. 4) I put all the "non-essential 'bills on behalf of my husband (like cable, phone, etc.) If not paid, it goes without television and telephone. 5) I pay the remaining bills (mortgage, electricity, gas, cars, insurance and my own credit cards), as if she was only – With all the money remaining.
