money activities for first grade

Why do some people with Ivy League and others not?
This is exactly what makes the difference between an application for acceptance and strong-but-application rejected? I know that colleges look at the standard categories of grades, standardized test scores, extracurricular activities and application testing, but I was strong in all areas of the school, and I still have all rejected by the Ivy League when applied degree. What makes the difference? Is it money? Knowing the right people? Being famous? The interview? Luck? If a college / admissions consultants around, this would be great to hear from you. Linkin: SAT – 2370 on a scale of 2400 GPA – 4.0, Leadership Weighted – principal flutist of some orchestras, Presidents Club partner, the founder of two new clubs on campus classes – five score of 5 in AP I mean, this is not a phenomenal record *, but people seemed to think that I have a decent chance.
There a number of books and articles on Ivy League admissions process, like this: Here are some comments http://www.newyorker.com/archive/2005/10/10/051010crat_atlarge about the process – seems to be a mystery to many people: http://www.vault.com/graddegree/school/school_main.jsp?program_id=1499&co_page=2&ch_id=408
